Officials announce $14M grant aimed at making Norwalk a more walkable city

State and local officials gathered Monday to announce a $14 million grant to improve Norwalk streets.
They say the upgrades will impact Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and six roadways around the South Norwalk Train Station.
The project will include roadway redesigns, enhanced connectivity and new bicycle, pedestrian and transit amenities.
Other improvements include expanded street tree planting, enhancing walkability and safety.
Officials say the changes will transform the way people can live by making Norwalk a much more walkable community.
"We want Norwalk to be a model community where, if you choose to, you can come and live here in a way that you don't have to get into a car," said Sen. Chris Murphy. “…We have a chance with this grant to really to really make Norwalk a draw for young professionals in particular."
Construction is expected to begin in Aug. 2025.
