Charles Fuller, of Bridgeport, has lived in public housing for the past two years, and when he saw a meme on social media last week claiming President Donald Trump had put a two-year limit on stays in public housing, he panicked.
"It was heartbreaking because it took me so long to get a place of my own and then, out of the blue, I thought I was going to lose it," Fuller told News 12 Thursday.
The meme, claiming Trump had signed an executive order imposing time limits on public housing stays, is a fake and one of several with the same message currently circulating on social media, officials say.
"When I first saw the meme my heart sank," said Jillian Baldwin, CEO of the Bridgeport Housing Authority.
"That's why we're getting the word out to all of our residents - many of whom have been calling us in a panic - that President Trump has not ordered time limits," Baldwin said.
But Baldwin says there's a lot of talk in the Housing Authority field about time limits coming down the pike.
"That would be consistent with what we have been hearing and reading about in Project 2025 -- the roadmap drawn up by Trump supporters for the future," Baldwin said.
"I believe we need to start having some serious conversations with our families, staff and residents that time limits might be coming," she said.
