A former New Canaan police officer was sentenced on Monday in Waterbury Superior Court for animal cruelty charges.
David Rivera was accused of ordering staff to shoot and dispose of at least 10 dogs at his training facility Black Rock Canine in Naugatuck.
Rivera will likely serve three years behind bars, followed by three years of probation.
