A decommissioned housing complex on Smith Street, on the East of Bridgeport, is set to be demolished Thursday. When - or if - a new complex planned for the site will be built is unclear, according to Jillian Baldwin, who heads up the Bridgeport Housing Authority. Baldwin says the federal government has paused millions of dollars in funding for new housing in Bridgeport, and for upgrades to existing housing, as part of the Trump administration's move to shrink and reshape the federal government. "We want the public to know that we are uncertain about the future of our projects due to this federal action. There are ways to reform federal housing programs, but to freeze federal funding overnight, and to throw the industry into chaos, is not the way to do it," Baldwin said.
