There's always a trick to putting on a show, but in this case, there’s more than usual.
Antonio Diaz, best known as El Mago Pop, has gone from doing magic on the streets of New York for a TV show to the Broadway stage. Diaz says he started doing magic when he was four years old.
“I was given a magic book and I started to practice many hours with cards and with coins. It was my dream,” he said.
Diaz is famous for his illusions in his native Spain.
"I would say that I'm in love with magic, but I'd also say that I'm in love with theatre, with emotions, with feelings, with trying to do something inspiring,” he said. “And that’s why when I build an illusion, I try to make it thinking about everything. Not only about the trick but what you feel about when you see the trick, the rhythm, the music, the lighting."
Diaz appeared on the Netflix’s "Magic for Humans.” Now he's bringing his illusions to Broadway's Barrymore Theatre for a limited engagement.
He's scheduled to perform on Broadway only through Aug. 27. Performances begin Thursday at the Barrymore Theatre.
