Preparations are underway for the 55th annual Children Trout Derby in Milford.

The event kicks off at 6 a.m. on May 6 at the upper and lower Milford Duck Ponds on North Street.

Organizers say the $13,000 event is made possible thanks to volunteers at the Milford Stripped Bass Club who seek donations from local businesses and individuals.

"The kids have a lot of fun doing it. They catch a fish and they come up to us with the fish because they're so excited. We measure them,” said organizer Jennifer Lalond.

The organizers also urge the public to support the event’s GoFundMe page.
