A Connecticut nonprofit is highlighting the resources that are available to those who are homeless while raising awareness of both the physical and mental struggles they face every day.
Jayson Jaramillo was homeless for several years. In 2019, he found the Pacific House, which he says gave him a "second chance at life."
Jaramillo is now one of Pacific House's outreach workers. Since he has been homeless, he knows firsthand the struggles it comes with.
"There's a lot of mental health, substance abuse problems," says Jamillo.
Pacific House is raising awareness of the struggles through its Homelessness & Health Week. Each day it provides information on a different topic.
"We want to make sure that we showcase the transformations and the positivity and share resources as well," says Elsi Lyons, director of development for Pacific House. "We have community collaboration and resilience."
The week also serves as Pacific House's spring fundraiser.
Pacific House relies heavily on grants and donations to continue its mission to end homelessness.
