A rash of safety issues near P.S. 161 in the Bronx is causing concerns for parents and students.
At least 50 parents have signed a petition demanding the installation of stop signs, along with road work, on Tinton Avenue, where the school is located.
Parents have complained about speeding vehicles outside the school, as well as an uneven and damaged street.
The only precaution for drivers sits at the intersection of 151st Street and Tinton, where there is a pothole-filled speed bump.
Carmen Figueroa, mother of a special-needs student, says the Department of Transportation told her they would respond to a request she made within 30 days, but her call was made two months ago.
When contacted by News 12, the DOT said they were aware of concerns in the area, and were conducting a study for safety enhancements.
