Two armed, masked men held up the Patriot Bank on Route 7 Wednesday morning in what may be the most brazen in a recent rash of southwestern Connecticut bank robberies.
The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. The pair busted through the front door of the bank, brandishing guns and demanding cash from workers at the facility. They tied up two tellers and the bank manager with duct tape before fleeing on foot. The robbers duct taped the workers? eyes shut as well. They made it out of the bank with $33,000.
Police arrived at the scene moments after the robbers left and roped off the area. The K-9 unit was also brought in to see if any scents could be picked up.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.
?They?re okay, nobody was injured. Obviously, they?re upset emotionally from being traumatized but physically they?re okay,? Caption Michael Lombardo of the Wilton Police Department said.
One of the tellers who was tied up had been the victim of a previous robbery at the Patriot Bank in Greenwich. She was so frightened, she asked to be transferred to the Wilton branch when it opened up about a year ago.
There have been at least 10 bank robberies in southwestern Connecticut since May.
