The Pequot Library in Southport is donating thousands of books to hundreds of teachers in Bridgeport and New Haven as part of its annual Books for Teachers program.
The program offers teachers $100 of books for their classrooms.
Teachers usually pick out the books they want during the library's annual summer book sale, but because of COVID-19, organizers say this year teachers were asked to fill out an application and answer questions about what types of books they needed.
Officials say volunteers at the library put bundles of books together for the teachers who completed applications, and then the teachers simply picked them up curbside at the Pequot Library.
Over 300 teachers were given books during the event.
The library says they have extended applications for teachers until August 19.
