A couple hopes to use the power of the people to end a liquor store drought in Wilton.
Elizabeth Quigley and her husband, Joe Sizinsky, have enough signatures to submit a petition they hope will allow them to open a liquor store. The couple already owns a liquor store in New York, but they would like to open one in Wilton, where they live.
Currently, residents must travel to a neighboring town to purchase liquor.
?I think we have an influx of new citizens who come to town and realize, ?oh I have to run up to Norwalk or up to Ridgefield?to get something that they should be able to get right in their own community,? Quigley says.
The Town Council says once the petition is submitted it will go before the Board of Selectmen. The board will hold a hearing and eventually vote on the issue.
