Pilot who flew out of Westchester County Airport in serious condition after crashing on Martha's Vineyard

A pilot flying from Westchester County Airport is in serious condition after crashing his plane in Massachusetts.
The Piper Meridian Turboprop six-seater plane crashed down in a grassy area near the runway at Martha's Vineyard Airport.
Massachusetts State Police say the 79-year-old pilot suffered a medical emergency upon final approach.
His passenger then tried to land the aircraft. Massachusetts State Police said. The hard landing caused the aircraft's left wing to break in half, Massachusetts state police said.
Both the pilot and passenger are from Connecticut and were taken to the hospital.
The pilot is in serious, life-threatening condition.
The passenger, a 68-year-old woman was uninjured and released.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
