Police: 1 dead, 2 injured in shooting along I-95
One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting while they were riding in a car along I-95 southbound between Bridgeport and Darien early Wednesday morning, state police say.
State police say the shooting happened just before 4 a.m.
They say the victims' car pulled off the interstate at Exit 10 in Darien near Noroton Avenue and Maple Street.
Darien police say a patrol sergeant noticed the car driving slowly in the area. They say the driver told the sergeant what happened.
Police say the driver, Jovel Mckenzie, had a superficial wound to his right shoulder and refused medical attention.
The front right passenger was identified as Earl Gayle and pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
The back-seat passenger was identified as Rashawn Mccall and underwent surgery. Mccall is listed in stable condition.
The State Police Western District Major Crimes Squad has assumed the investigation.
Detectives continue to search for the suspect or suspects and the motive behind the shooting.
Noroton Avenue at Maple Street reopened around 9 a.m. following the police investigation.
I-95 southbound from exits 18 to 10 was also shut down from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. but has since reopened.
