Two people were hospitalized following a motorcycle and SUV collision in Bridgeport Saturday night.
The crash happened at the intersection of Garfield and Madison avenues just after 6 p.m.
Police say a Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Toyota RAV4 where the avenues intersect. They say the 22-year-old Bridgeport man on the motorcycle was going north on Madison, while the other driver, a 36-year-old Bridgeport man, was going east on Garfield.
Police say the man on the motorcycle was thrown and landed on the sidewalk while the RAV4 also went onto the sidewalk and struck an 80-year-old pedestrian walking nearby.
Police say the senior citizen was hospitalized with non-threatening conditions, but the motorcycle driver was rushed to Saint Vincent's Medical Center with critical injuries. They say the man in the RAV4 was not hurt and is cooperating with police.
Residents in the area say the intersection is desperately in need of a traffic light because other serious accidents have taken place there. Authorities say surveillance video of the crash may help traffic engineers prevent other serious injuries like this one.
