Stamford police say the man who was struck by a car this afternoon across from Stamford High School has died.
News 12 reported earlier that a driver in a white Mercedes struck the man as he walked down the sidewalk on Strawberry Hill Avenue, causing a serious head injury.
Carmine Passero, the 65-year-old victim, was sometimes a substitute teacher at Stamford High School, according to Dr. Donna Valentine, the school's principal.
Valentine says Passero wasn't working at the school Friday, but that he lived just down the street.
Police say Passero was heading north on the sidewalk when the Mercedes driven by 58-year-old Peter Parashkevov struck him. The driver lives across the street from the school.
Passero died a short time after reaching Stamford Hospital, according to police.
Investigators have not yet said whether the driver will face charges.
