Bridgeport police say two men Friday morning stopped a man armed with a box-cutter from entering an elementary school and held him until officers could arrive.
Paul Hernandez and his nephew Robert Hernandez were dropping off a young family member at Achievement First Charter School when they saw a man armed with a box-cutter acting violently and trying to get inside the building, police said.
The men grabbed the suspect and held him until police arrived and placed him under arrest shortly after 7 a.m.
The suspect, Alex Wichelm, was allegedly under the influence of drugs and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for a psychological evaluation, officials said.
Paul Hernandez works as a school security officer at another local school. Robert Hernandez is scheduled to begin Monday as a school security officer himself.?
