The homeowner who kept nearly 50 dogs and cats in her Fairfield home before they were seized last month due to "deplorable" conditions has been charged with 48 counts of animal cruelty, according to police.

Police began investigating Glorianne Lagnese after one of her dogs was found roaming, allegedly covered in urine and feces.

That led police to her home on Steep Hill Road.

Lagnese turned herself in to police Friday.

She posted $5,000 bond and is due in court May 19.
