A man was arrested in connection to a deadly Bridgeport shooting which he allegedly told officers that he carried out as retaliation.
Police say Dondre Nesmith, 25, fatally shot Javier Flores, 27, on Monday on Rennell Court. He was arrested after the Gang Task Force executed a warrant on Nesmith's home and on his car.
Nesmith allegedly told police that he carried out the shooting after two men allegedly robbed him and forced him to strip down naked.
A resident says the victim was a "gentle soul who minded his own business" and he's heartbroken by the killing. Another man, who claims to be Nesmith's stepfather, sends his condolences to Flores' family but believes that his stepson couldn't have committed a crime like this one.
Flores' mother tells News 12 her son has never been arrested and started working, going to night school and raising his 2-year-old daughter on his own.
Community activist Wayne Winston says he knows firsthand about the deadly cycle of gang violence, and hopes there's no retaliation against the suspect's family.
Nesmith is charged with murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
