One person is facing animal cruelty charges after police say dozens of animals were rescued from a home in Woodbridge on Sunday morning.

Regional animal control says police called around 5 a.m. about a resident looking to surrender 14 dogs to the shelter.

Upon further inspection, they say 23 dogs, 20 cats, a guinea pig and seven bunnies needed to be rescued.

The owner agreed to surrender all of the animals.

Shelters from Bridgeport, New Haven and North Haven assisted in the effort.

Animal control is asking for pet supplies, wet dog food and wet cat food.
