Police search Greenwich for armed robbery suspect
Police searched a Greenwich neighborhood Friday for a man wanted in connection with three armed robberies in town.
The suspect is accused of robbing a Chase Bank on Putnam Avenue twice within 24 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as a Citgo gas station across the street before that.
Police said they received multiple reports Friday of the suspect running through the neighborhood. A manhunt was launched involving other police departments, choppers and K-9 units.
Heavily armed police could be seen near Exit 5 of Interstate 95. Traffic was stopped periodically as police searched the scene.
Police said authorities had eyes on the suspect late Friday afternoon, but he got away by car. He ended up ditching his car on I-95, running off through nearby backyards.
Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray said the suspect was dressed in black and has blonde, slicked-back hair.
