Officials: Bridgeport Public Schools closed Friday due to social media threats

Bridgeport Public Schools announced that all schools in the district will be closed Friday due to additional online threats.

Schools were on a two-hour delay Thursday in response to a separate threat.

However, officials later decided there would be early dismissal.

Due to the threat, there was an increased police presence at all schools.

A juvenile is facing charges after police say the youth made an online threat to Bridgeport schools.

Police Chief Roderick Porter said during a press conference Thursday that police responded quickly once they began aware of the threat.

"By 8 p.m., we knew who the individual was, we knew the location, and working with our FBI partners, we had that person in custody," said Porter.

Harding High School postponed its senior sunrise event on Thursday. A new date is expected to be scheduled.

Police said anyone with information regarding these threats should contact the Bridgeport Police Department Detective Bureau at 203-581-520 or their Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS.

Schools were canceled in Ansonia Thursday.

Police say a 13-year-old girl confessed to posting a threat on social media and was arrested.

Schools in Ansonia will resume a regular schedule Friday.

On Wednesday, there was an increased police presence at Norwalk schools after a threat was made on social media Tuesday.

Fairfield police are currently investigating threats toward a neighboring community made on social media.

Out of an abundance of caution, there was an increased police presence at all Fairfield schools, both public and private, on Thursday.
