Police: Suspect in NY fatal shooting investigation dies by suicide in Stamford

Police said patrol officers and investigators from multiple units were looking for the suspect who was believed to have fled to Connecticut.

Police say a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in Ramapo, New York, died by suicide in Stamford Wednesday.
It happened just before 2 p.m. on Canal Street.
Police said patrol officers and investigators from multiple units were looking for the suspect who was believed to have fled to Connecticut.
Police said the armed suspect fired a gun at himself and collapsed as officers approached.
Police said Lawrence Byrd, 53, allegedly shot and killed a 56-year-old female in Hillcrest, located in Rockland County, New York.
Byrd was a Norwalk resident.
Officers followed Byrd and approached him on Canal Street at South State Street underneath the MTA train overpass.
Stamford officers said they attempted CPR measures, but the suspect was pronounced dead at 4:16 p.m.
Police have not released any details regarding the victim's identity.
Stamford police are still investigating this incident.
Ramapo police said on Thursday that officers had been to the Hillcrest home in the past regarding reports of domestic violence.
