One teenager has died, and four others are recovering following a car accident in Wolcott Saturday.
Police say it happened near 734 Spindle Hill Rd just after 10 p.m. They say a vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.
While on their way to the scene, officers were informed that the vehicle caught on fire. Upon their arrival, officers found the front of the car on fire and located down a small embankment, laying on its side.
Two people were outside of the vehicle and told officers the remaining three were inside.
Firefighters put out the fire while an officer reached through the shattered window and pulled an individual out of the back seat.
The two remaining front seat occupants, both trapped inside, had to be extracted.
The occupant in the front passenger seat, 17, was flown by Lifestar to Hartford Hospital. They are in critical condition.
The driver, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the three back occupants, ages 16, 18 and 18, suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, which is made of officers from area towns, was called to the scene and are investigating the cause of the accident. Wolcott Police Sgt. Jeff Reichard is the lead investigator.
