Westport police say an 18-year-old is dead after a crash on Old Hill Road.
Police say the teen, identified as Max Harper, was traveling in the southbound lane of Old Hill Road when his dirt bike collided with a fully loaded dump truck driving in the northbound lane around 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday.
Harper was a senior at Staples High School, according to school officials.
The school superintendent announced in a statement that the school would operate on a two-hour delay, and games for Thursday were canceled.
Officials say the driver of the dump truck veered off the road, collided with several trees, and rolled onto its side while attempting to avoid a collision with the teenager.
The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The road between Patrick Road and Broadview Road was temporarily closed during an investigation.
