The start of the 2006 holiday shopping season brings huge sales and potential dangers for big buyers.Black Friday is known as the beginning of the holiday shopping season. However, Stamford Police Lieutenant Sean Cooney says shoppers need to use common sense when visiting the stores. Lugging around several bags can make residents a potential target for robbers. He says shoppers need to be aware of distractions, as they might be meant to divert attention away from their bags or their money.Cooney says it is unfortunate but some thieves will target women simply because of the way they walk with their pocketbooks. He warns shoppers not to carry or flash large amounts of cash, to store their purchases in the trunk of their car and not to leave receipts in view.
