The city of New Britain is demanding former Mayor Erin Stewart repay more than $240,000 following a state investigation into her spending, as federal authorities continue to review the case.

The Connecticut State Police and FBI are examining Stewart's financial practices, with officials indicating the probe has reached the level of a potential criminal investigation. Analysts say the case could raise broader concerns about transparency and public accountability.

Meanwhile, state Rep. Lucy Dathan announced she will seek reelection to her current seat after deciding against a run for the state Senate. Her decision sets up a possible primary race, as newcomer Jack Pavia has also entered the contest.

In New Haven, Yale Law School hosted women from around the world this week for a program focused on running political campaigns, part of an effort to expand female representation in government.

Separately, Gov. Ned Lamont signed a new law providing expanded support for first responders, including free college tuition for up to 400 police officers, firefighters and EMTs, along with additional financial assistance.
