Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont defeated Josh Elliott in the Democratic Primary. Elliott was considered a more liberal state lawmaker, half Lamont's age.

In other Primary contests, Democrats sent Rep. John Larson packing after 14 terms in Congress. Former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin defeated Larson by more than 20 points.

Larson is just the latest veteran of Congress to be ousted by a younger candidate with promising fresh ideas.

Lamont will now face Republican State Sen. Ryan Fazio, this week's guest, in the November elections.

Dr. Jonathan Wharton, of Southern Connecticut State University, joins News 12's John Craven to discuss longtime Rep. John Larson's loss in the Democratic primary. He also discusses what Larson's loss could mean for other veterans like Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Rosa DeLauro.

An investigation found that the Connecticut Department of Correction was negligent in monitoring an inmate who died by suicide at the New Haven Correctional Facility.

The inspector general found that 33-year-old Gamboy Guaranda's death was not the result of any criminal action.

The report, however, says a corrections officer did not intervene when Guaranda blocked the window of his cell door with a piece of paper before he died by suicide.

The inspector general also says the officer falsely made entries on a log indicating that he had conducted required tours of the cell block that morning.
