On Saturday, President Joe Biden approved a disaster declaration for certain parts of Connecticut, including Fairfield County.
Residents have 60 days to apply to apply for federal funds to pay for damaged incurred by the storm.
The aid covers uninsured costs from the storm with a capped amount of $36,000.
"It’s not just destruction of property and household,” says Rep. Jim Himes. “It can be things like if you had to stay in a hotel.”
Jeannine Wojnas, 77, says she has not heard back from her insurance yet. She’s happy to hear about the new approved federal help.
"My replacements is over 100 thousand dollars,” says Wojnas.
Officials are telling residents to gather receipts and insurance reports and apply at disasterassistance.gov.
