President Obama signed a bill into law yesterday that was partly inspired by Sandy Hook and other mass shootings.

The bipartisan Mental Health Reform Act expands access and affordability of care to people with mental health issues.

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, introduced the bill after the Newtown shooting. He says he believes the law will prevent future tragedies.

The new law was all part of sweeping legislation in Hartford after the Sandy Hook shooting.



Now, when a pediatrician or a teacher or a school guidance counselor recognizes an at-risk child, one phone call connects them to a team of psychiatrists to identify the child and get them help right away.



The state has also invested in more mobile crisis teams to identify at-risk kids.
