Princeton University is now requiring its undergraduates get tested twice a week for COVID-19.

It's part of an effort to ward off any further increase of COVID-19 cases, including the Delta or new Omicron variant.

Vaccination among students is mandated on the Princeton campus. Students were previously required to take a saliva test once a week before the switch to twice a week.

In their most recent week of reporting, Princeton University had 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is a slightly higher number than normal.

Students, many of whom wear masks outdoors, told News 12 that they don't mind the second round of testing.

"I think it shows that the university cares about what's going on outside and inside the university.  I think they want us to be in-person, " said freshman Kasey Shao.

With the threat of the new variant, the Ivy League university is also getting tough on travel.

Any students who have traveled or plan to travel internationally or within the United States should not return to campus until the winter session, which begins on Jan. 7.
