Quinnipiac's men's hockey team was honored in the state Senate Thursday.
Last month, the Bobcats won their first NCAA Division 1 men's hockey championship.
The players and Coach Rand Pecknold were congratulated on their overtime win over Minnesota.
Officials say thanks to the win, Connecticut is becoming a powerhouse for college hockey.
Pecknold says it was thrilling for him and the team to be celebrated.
"One of our models in why we won this year is that we're selfless and we preach that all the time," Pecknold said. "We're selfless in what we do we got a national championship for that. Love to always bring up we beat Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio State in a row that's good for the state of Connecticut."
This year was the team's third trip to the finals.
