Governor Jodi Rell (RT-C) signed a $2.3 billion transportation bill Friday and has allocated the money to Metro-North to improve the railway.
Rell took a ride herself on Metro-North while signing the bill. She said a portion of the money will go to refurbishing old railway cars and stations as well as to improve parking. Another portion will be aimed at railway improvements and cargo operations. Rell says she wants to get freight trucks off of I-95 by encouraging them to utilize Metro-North.
Refurbished railcars should start to be seen by the end of September.
