The Southington community paid their respects at the calling hours for Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier, who was hit and killed on I-84 last Thursday.
Friends and family filled Della Vecchia Funeral Home on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old husband and father of two young boys lost his life in the line of duty when he was hit by a pickup truck while conducting a traffic stop on I-84 in Southington.
Pelletier is being remembered for his warm personality and dedication to his career as a trooper.
Mark Pooler, of the Southington YMCA, told News 12 about his longtime connection with the Pelletier family.
"Aaron was a huge part of our YMCA family, frequented the YMCA quite a bit. His family was involved in our preschool program, summer camp,” Pooler said. “We have some things planned to help support the family as they continue this journey. But right now, our hearts are just heavy for the entire Pelletier family."
Family and friends attended calling hours from 12 to 3 p.m., while members of the law enforcement community attended from 5 to 8 p.m.
A public funeral will be held on Wednesday at Xfinity Theater in Hartford at 11 a.m.
