Report shows BX hospitals reduced mortality rates by 10 percent
Bronx residents are reportedly getting better care at the city?s public hospitals. According to the New York Post, officials from the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) say patients? mortality rates have been reduced by 10 percent since 2004, saving an estimated 332 lives across the city. They say some ways they have improved care are by setting up rapid response teams and taking steps to reduce infections. The HHC president also told the Post that Bronx and city hospitals are doing more screening for HIV and AIDS. The number of patients being screened doubled in 2006 to 100,000 people.
