A new report is detailing how the Attorney General Office's is complying with the Connecticut Data Privacy Act.
The act gives people the right to access, correct and delete personal data that is stored and collected by businesses. People also have the right to opt-out of the sale of the data and opt out of targeted advertising.
Due to the act, the state has launched investigations into companies involved in data breaches, issues violations and created legislation that will protect minors' privacy and health data.
"The phones, our cars, everything is collecting data about us. And we talk about the importance of protecting children and we don't know the long-term ramifications of what collecting all this data on children will lead to. How can this be used in algorithms that are intended to make you buy things, manipulate your behaviors in other ways. and so, it's important we protect people's privacy," says state Sen. James Maroney (D-Milford).
Connecticut was one of the first states to require a global privacy control, which allows people to universal privacy by using an opt-out site or the search engine DuckDuckGo.
