Community members and officials attended a cannabis dispensary forum Tuesday as more locations open in Fairfield County.
Experts explained what residents can expect when cannabis dispensaries open up in Norwalk over the next few months.
The panel included city officials, business leaders and representatives from the cannabis dispensaries. Shangri La is set to open in December on Main Avenue and Fine Fettle is set to open a dispensary on Main Street in early 2024.
A large part of the discussion focused on proper education for youth as well as proper signage and tools to enforce marijuana laws around the city.
The Norwalk police chief emphasized cracking down on smoke and vape shops selling marijuana illegally. Mayor Harry Rilling also says the city is doing everything it can to try and keep people safe.
"There's a lot of people who wish the state had not decriminalized marijuana and we understand that," says Rilling. "We want to be understanding of that, we want to be sympathetic to their concerns and their feelings, and we want to do everything we can to give them confidence that things are going to be done properly."
