A road rage incident in Watertown has led to charges against two drivers, police said.
Officers responded to an active dispute near Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Main Street on Oct. 5. Police said the confrontation began while the drivers were traveling northbound on Main Street and escalated from a disagreement over driving behavior.
Investigators said Amanda Byrnes of Thomaston used a racial slur during a verbal exchange. Police said Jamel Shepherd of New Haven then threw a beverage at Byrnes' vehicle. Shepherd provided officers with video of the exchange, while Byrnes told police Shepherd threatened her life when she tried to record him.
After interviewing both drivers and collecting written statements, police charged Byrnes with second-degree breach of peace and Shepherd with second-degree threatening. Both were issued misdemeanor summonses and are due in court Oct. 14.
