Her cupcakes are as creative as they are cute, and you'll find more than just chocolate and vanilla.
Sonia says, "I think what keeps it fun and interesting is just having different flavors. I like to do different things, like banana, passion fruit, or Dubai, which is a popular flavor out there."
She says people have traveled from as far as Massachusetts and Philadelphia to get a taste of these realistic-looking, hand-crafted treats.
"So typically, it's like a mousse with a puree and then it has a layer of cake," she says. "We fill the molds up with the mousse, stuff it with the puree or the filling or whatever fruit it resembles, and then we have a layer of cake and let it freeze."
The pastry is then dipped in chocolate and decorated to look like real fruit.
She is grateful to all the people who visit her bakery.
"It's just crazy how people are willing to travel that long to get a pastry or cupcakes or whatever they would like to try," she says. "It makes me happy to know people actually see us from that far out and come here. That's great."
Cakes by Sonia is open Tuesday through Saturday.
