Road Trip Close to Home: American Lantern Festivals

Middlefield’s Lyman Orchards is the only lantern festival in the state.
John Lyman, executive vice president of Lyman Orchards, says there is a connection to their farm.
American Lantern Festivals show producer Bob Montgomery says they were looking to tell a story that was about family. This one tells a story of children who visit their grandfather on a farm and stay in their father’s room.
“They see the toys that he used to play with when he was a kid,” says Montgomery.
“We tell a story that features dinosaurs, Africa, Tarzan and some of the species there,” says Montgomery.
While walking through, visitors can take photos and enjoy the beauty of the lanterns.
“It’s just beautiful and of course it's wintertime,” says Lyman. “It's nice and peaceful.”
The walkthrough appeals to people of all ages.
“If you're looking for something very unique, the whole family can enjoy, get inspired with the beauty of displays and the lights and the colors, this is the thing to come to," says Lyman.
