Road Trip Close To Home: Christian Dior exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum

Fashion lovers, listen up! A new exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum allows visitors to immerse themselves into the world of legendary designer Christian Dior and his rise to fame through several breathtaking galleries.
Glittering walls and fluorescent lights illuminate the galleries at the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition. The exhibition chronicles the fashion journey of the famed designer dating back to the late '40s.
"It's a 75-year history of the House of Dior, which opened which opened on Feb. 12, 1947," says curator Matthew Yokobosky. "It was a very big moment in fashion where the silhouette that had been prevalent during World War II changed."
The exhibition features over 200 timeless dresses, hundreds of accessories and videos that quickly transport visitors into the world of Dior.
"We have a section called Colorama, which is all about accessories. The Atelier is about how the dresses go from being a sketch to a three-dimensional form. And then we have a section called the Enchanted Garden, which is about ball gowns. And the last room is called Stars in Dior, where you get to see all of your favorite stars who wore Christian Dior on the runway," says Matthew.
The exhibition brings to life Dior's many inspirations, from flowers to contemporary and classical art. The galleries are devoted to not only Christian Dior but also to the designers who succeeded him.
His six successors included Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferré and current designer Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Christian Dior died in 1957 at the age of 52, but his legacy lives on. The exhibition runs until February 2022.
