Consumer prices across the board are up 4.2% - the biggest increase in over a decade - and it's affecting local businesses.

For nearly a century, Plastic-Craft in West Nyack has distributed the widest array of plastic products, with clientele including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Pfizer, Rockland Bakery - and even the acrylic top of John Oliver's set desk.

The company says that just like the rest of the world, it is feeling the financial crunch of COVID-19.

"Now we're seeing price spikes in all the plastic across the board between 8% and 20%," says Dane Brecher, CMO of Plastic-Craft Products.

That increase is being passed to the companies buying the parts, including Pearl River Pastry, which tells News 12 it's not the only increase they're digesting.

The bakery may be forced to raise prices about 5% on its bakery items, which are sold in supermarkets nationwide.

Plastic price increases, according to Plastic-Craft, are a major factor behind the 4.2% consumer price increases we're now enduring across the board.

"The majority of plastic we use is mechanical, the automotive industry, the airline industry, it's used all over…" says Mark Brecher, president of Plastic-Craft Products.
