Sacred Heart University's cheer team celebrated a major milestone this weekend for the second straight year and the sixth time in program history.
The Pioneers are again UCA national champions. The team took home the title in the All-Girl Division 1 Game Day division.
The team scored 97.83 out of 100 and competed against 30 other teams in Orlando.
Team members say it feels amazing to win again and remain on top after all their hard work.
"We worked so hard and in our routine, we had such a good time with it. Every routine is different and I feel like you never know what the judges are going to like," says senior Gianna Chochems.
Chochems also says it's easy to win once, but it's hard to repeat the accomplishment.
"I've been cheering for about 15 years and it's just very rewarding and to see how resilient our team was through everything we've been through, especially growing with my friends," says senior Emma Silberman.
She says the team's expectations were set very high and everyone wanted to improve from last year.
This is the team's sixth title in school history.
They are currently on a winning streak, having won their first title in 2020.
SHU says following its first win, the Pioneers won Open All-Girl Game Day national titles in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. In 2024, SHU came within hundredths of a point of first and second places.
