Police officials in the Hudson Valley say safety and security are a top priority following the Hamas terror attacks in Israel.
Clarkstown police were outside Congregation Shir Shalom on Monday. David Rubinstein, of Nanuet, a member of the congregation since 2015, says he's seen them at the New City synagogue before.
"I think it's great. It's just a shame they have to be here," said Rubinstein.
Another law enforcement agency in Rockland says they're stepping up patrols at houses of worship as a result of the violence overseas. Rockland County has the highest Jewish population per capita in the United States at 31.4% according to the state.
Chabad of Orange County says they've been speaking with state and local police as well as their own private security teams.
