Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) dodged some political bullets Monday, continuing to campaign as some registered Democrats ask for his removal from the party?s registry. The senator mingled with constituents at the New Colony Diner on Main Street in Bridgeport, where he talked about the disgruntled voters who want him removed from the Democratic rolls because he is running as an independent. Lieberman called the suggestion ?ridiculous? and suggested that what voters want is an end to political partisanship.
Lieberman insists that his voting record ? 90 percent in sync with other Democratic senators? votes ? shows he buys into the party platform. Lieberman also talked briefly about his suggestion that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld should resign.
