Westport Police Department warns residents of scam calls pretending to be police

A small, dead shark washed up on shore at Burying Hill on Tuesday morning.

Lifeguards at the Westport beach say it happened during a kids' camp.

Mark Fowler, a wildlife expert, told News 12 it is a smooth dogfish shark.

Residents were spotted taking pictures of the carcass all day long after a few people say it was posted on Dan Woog's blog, 06880, a popular blog in the town of Westport.

People noticed that birds ate the carcass all day.

Experts say it is one of the most common small sharks found in the Long Island Sound.

News 12 reached out to the Westport Police Department for further information but had not received a response as of Tuesday night.
