A fatal shooting and car crash took place Monday night around State Street and Park Avenue in Bridgeport.
At approximately 7:41 p.m. Bridgeport police responded to the 800 block of State Street on a ShotSpotter activation and reports of shots fired.
At approximately 7:43 p.m., police say responding officers were updated with reports of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Park Avenue and State Street.
Police say they found 39-year-old Shamar Swinton, of Bridgeport, with multiple gunshot wounds and behind the wheel of a black Honda Accord involved in the car accident.
Medics were called and transported Swinton to Saint Vincent's Hospital where he later died.
"It just breaks my heart that people don't take heed. When people come out there shooting, they're looking for someone and somebody is a target," said Swinton's aunt, Rhonda Jones. She lives in Ohio and spoke to News 12 on Zoom Tuesday. "I had a good talk with him the other day. I mean about the streets and you know being careful. The last thing he told me was he loved me and I told him to be safe," she said.
Meantime, police say they have some leads in this case and are investigating.
