Millie Larsen plans to have a trumpeter play Taps at midnight.
The 88-year-old bartender has been serving drinks at the Driftwood Café on Post Road since 1967 and says the regular customers are like family. The bar will have its final last call Friday night as its liquor license expires. The owners say they didn?t renew because the building was sold and the new rent is too high.
Larsen says the Driftwood has always stayed true to what it was ? a neighborhood bar. Old pictures hang on the walls and none of the drinks cost more than $4. Many patrons say the closing of the Driftwood marks the end of an era.
