Around two dozen Long Island districts put their mask rules on hold Tuesday before an Appellate court judge determined that New York's mask mandate could stay in effect.

A New York Supreme Court justice had originally struck down the state's mask mandate on Monday, which led each school district to make decisions whether or not to require masks.

At Manhasset Secondary School, students who did not wear a mask were put in a library and attended class via Zoom.

Several students and their parents feel that masks should now be optional across Long Island schools.

"I'm not saying completely get rid of masks, I'm saying make it optional," says Isabella Bonati, a student at Manhasset Secondary School. "If you feel uncomfortable without one, you can wear one, but if you feel comfortable without one, you don't have to wear one. That's all I really want."

Parents protested outside some schools that separated children who came to class without their mask.
