A student at Southern Connecticut State University has been detained by immigration authorities off campus, the university confirmed.

There have been no reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity on campus, interim President Dr. Sandy Bulmer said.

In a statement shared with News 12, Bulmer addressed the possibility of student response following the detention.
"Moments like these often inspire collective action or demonstrations, and Southern respects the right to peacefully express views," Bulmer said. "We encourage all community members to do so in a respectful, lawful manner that centers care for one another."

Bulmer said student safety remains the university's top priority.

He said the school is committed to ensuring the campus remains a safe and welcoming place for all.

Bulmer also said counseling and support resources are available to students who need them.
