Southport officials have eliminated all of the town?s volunteer firefighters until they provide official documentation that they have completed the required training.Town officials say without the documentation they cannot allow the volunteers to work. Meanwhile, the volunteers say they should be able to respond to calls as they complete the training. Town officials say they are offering courses in early November to help the firefighters catch up. According to town representative, most of the volunteers should be back on duty within the next 10 days.Officials say Southport residents should not worry about safety in light of the development. They say volunteers are simply a supplement to the town?s full-time firefighters.
